Kaptai is one of the upazila under Rangamati Hill District. It is famous for its Hydroelectric Power Station, the only Hydro-electric power plant of Bangladesh. The famous Kaptai Lake is also located in this Kaptai Upazila. 

The origin of "Kaptai" name comes from "Kap Te Twima".
